Emergency numbers in India: the complete list
The numbers every family should save for a parent living independently in India — and when to call each one.
112 — National emergency number
The single all-in-one emergency number that works across India, from any phone. It connects you to police, fire, and ambulance services. If you remember only one number, remember this one.
100 — Police
The traditional police control-room number. It still works, and connects to 112 in most states.
101 — Fire brigade
For fires and fire-related rescues.
102 — Ambulance
A free ambulance service, focused on pregnant women and infants in many states.
108 — Emergency ambulance
The emergency response ambulance for medical emergencies, accidents, and trauma across most Indian states.
14567 — Elderline — senior citizen helpline
The national helpline for senior citizens, for emotional support, information, and help in situations of abuse or neglect. Especially worth saving for a parent living alone.
1091 — Women's helpline
For women in distress, available round the clock.
1098 — Childline
For children in need of care and protection.
1930 — Cyber-fraud helpline
To report online financial fraud quickly — useful if an elderly parent is targeted by a scam call or message.
State variations
Numbers can vary a little by state — in some states an ambulance is reached on 108, in others on 102. When in doubt, dial 112: it works everywhere in India and routes your call to the right service.
