Frequently asked questions
Plain answers about what Uttam is, what it does, and what it doesn't.
What is Uttam?
Uttam is a simple way to help an elderly parent living independently in India stay safe at home — and to keep the family close, even from far away. It's designed to be effortless, with nothing new for your parent to learn or manage.
Does my parent need a smartphone?
No. Uttam is built for parents who don't use a smartphone. There's no app for them to open, no account to manage, nothing to configure day to day. They simply press one button when they need help. The smartphone setup happens once, on your phone, not theirs.
What happens if the internet or power goes out?
Uttam is built for real Indian homes, where power cuts and patchy internet are part of life. It's designed to keep working through those everyday failures so your parent still has a way to raise the alarm and reach you when it matters most.
How does fall detection work, and what if it triggers by mistake?
Uttam can detect a hard fall and raise the alarm on its own, so help is on the way even if your parent can't press the button. If it ever triggers by mistake, your parent can cancel it, and the family alert makes it easy to check in and confirm all is well.
Who receives the alert?
The people your parent chooses. During setup, you decide which family members or trusted contacts are alerted, and an alert reaches them on their phones wherever they are in the country — the moment the button is pressed or a fall is detected.
Does Uttam track my parent's location or health?
No. Uttam is not a tracking or health-monitoring device. It doesn't follow your parent's movements or record health information. It stays quiet until it's needed, and only then does it raise an alarm and alert your family. It's about dignity and safety, not surveillance.
Is this a medical device?
No. Uttam is a non-medical personal safety device. It doesn't diagnose, monitor, or treat any health condition, and it isn't a substitute for medical care or emergency services. It's a simple way to raise the alarm and reach family quickly when your parent needs help at home.
What does it cost?
Pricing isn't finalised yet. What we can say today: joining the Early Preview is completely free, with no payment and no commitment. Early Preview families will be the first to hear about pricing when Uttam is ready, and we'll always share clear, honest pricing before anyone is ever asked to pay.
Which cities is Uttam available in?
Uttam is being made for families across India, and we're rolling it out in stages. The best way to know when Uttam reaches your parent's city is to join the Early Preview — we'll let you know as soon as it's available in your area.
Is it available in Hindi?
Yes. Uttam is built for Hindi and English from the start, because that's how Indian families actually talk to each other. The setup and everything the family sees is designed to work comfortably in both, with more Indian languages planned over time.
What data does Uttam store, and where?
Uttam is built to collect as little as possible — essentially, who to alert and how to reach them. We don't sell your information or use it for advertising. We're finalising our full privacy policy, and we'll always be clear about what we hold and how to have it removed.
How is setup done?
Setup takes a few minutes and happens on your phone, not your parent's. You scan a code, choose who receives alerts, and confirm how they're notified. Your parent doesn't need to do anything technical — Uttam arrives ready to use, and you handle the rest remotely.
